2020-02-19: Exploring The Test And Evaluation Space Using Model-based Conceptual Design (MBCD) Techniques
Date: Wednesday, February 19, 2020
Speaker: Dr. David Flanigan, Principal Professional Staff for The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, and vice chair of the Johns Hopkins University Systems Engineering Program.
Dr. David Flanigan spoke about how during the initial concept development phase, systems engineers may use Model Based Conceptual Design (MBCD) techniques to focus on defining the problem space and system functions. This approach has generally been successful for describing the system concept in the early stages in the lifecycle, but a lack of attention in the Test and Evaluation (T&E) space has motivated the extension of the MBCD methodology to consider this space to improve decision makers’ insights into total system development. His talk will presented the concepts given at the 2019 INCOSE International Symposium, as well as a preview of the follow-on work that was submitted and accepted to the 2020 INCOSE IS.
