2021-10-22: Chapter Social Gathering & Guided Tour Experience
Date: Friday, October 22, 2021
This October a group of Chesapeake Chapter members gathered for the first in-person social event the chapter has held in over a year and a half since COVID restrictions forced the chapter to suspend such events. Local Chapter members met at the Guinness Open Gate facility in Halethorpe Maryland where they took a private tour of the grounds and facilities. The facility is located on a total of 64 acres with outdoor lawn space available for dining and entertainment said to have a capacity for 4,500 people! So plenty of space available to maintain social distance while still being social that night. The provided tour was outstanding. The knowledgeable guide covered the history of Guinness, but also the local history on the renovated facility and why Guinness selected Halethorpe as the ideal location to launch its vision for bringing new products to U.S. markets. The Halethorpe location being only their second plant in North America but is also unique for its particular focus towards creating experimental beers. In fact, most of the beers one will find on tap at Halethorpe are only available here. Members, ended the evening with camaraderie and samplings of an array of top notch foods and experimental beers available at the site.
