The Chesapeake INCOSE Chapter has partnered with the Washington DC IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) to host a presentation. Our speaker is Ms. Suzanne Lightman from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Abstract:

Ms. Suzanne Lightman will discuss Vehicle to everything (V2X) communications which covers vehicle to vehicle, vehicle to infrastructure and vehicle to other road users. When considering complex technical implementations such as V2X communications, it is as important to consider policy issues as technical ones. This talk will focus on how implementation of V2X communications is complicated by the issues of public policy. The talk will also discuss the role of standards and what they can and cannot accomplish.

Speaker Biography:

Currently, Ms. Suzanne Lightman is a Senior Advisor at the Computer Security Division of the Information Technology Lab at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). In that position, Ms. Lightman serves as the main point for cybersecurity and transportation systems as well as cybersecurity of industrial systems. She has been involved with a diverse portfolio of topics including development of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, cybersecurity in cyber-physical systems, identity management, IoT cybersecurity and cybersecurity & privacy policy. Her standard's work includes automotive cybersecurity engineering (SAE/ISO 21434, ISO 24089) and industrial cybersecurity (IEC 62443). Ms. Lightman has two decades of experience in cybersecurity policy and implementation in positions all over the government, as well as in the private sector. She has held positions in both the legislative and executive branches which gives her a unique perspective on the development and implementation of government policy. In addition, she has worked on ethical hacking teams as well as led in-depth audits and reviews of cybersecurity.
