Overview: This interactive tutorial will provide a detailed introduction to an approach using the Lean Startup Method (LSM) and Agile (Agile SE, SWE, and PjM/PM) to conduct a stakeholder-centric elicitation and development of a set of system solution Initial Capabilities (ICs). Participants will learn about, then practice, a defined set of process steps used to transform stakeholder Problems, Issues, and Needs, into a set of potential system solution Initial Capabilities (ICs). Any project can then use these ICs to enhance and improve Requirements definition, analysis, engineering, and management.

Michael E. (Mike) Pafford

Instructor: Mike Pafford has been a member of the INCOSE Chesapeake Chapter since 1998; serving as Chapter President in 2017. He received his Bachelors in Business from the University of Maryland while serving in the US Air Force, and his Masters in Information Systems from the Naval Postgraduate School while serving in the US Navy. After retiring from the Navy, Mike held several Senior Systems Engineering and Project Management positions at General Dynamics, Harris Corporation, and JHU/APL until retiring in 2016. He was also a Software Systems Engineering Instructor in the JHU Engineering for Professionals Systems Engineering Master’s Degree program from 2008-2018.
